A safe space for all members of our community to engage in environmentally-friendly gardening in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. In 2007 Bishop Fleming provided this orchard and garden for the group of eight families from the Karen ethnic group in Myanmar who were resettled in the town as part of a National Programme Refugee Initiative. They were joined by the Grow it Yourself Group who help manage the space.

From the overgrown space, the group has developed a place to grow their own vegetables. There is an old orchard with pollinator-friendly understory, a linear orchard, espalier fruit trees along the retaining walls, a soft fruit area, several vegetable beds, a polytunnel, pollinator-friendly flower beds, a herb garden, raised beds (for people with mobility issues), a pollinator-friendly hedged area. The area also comprises of a garden shed, a compost toilet, a canteen, a clay pizza oven, a barbecue area, several beehives, a composting area, nest boxes, an insect hotel and education trail with signage for plants and birds. It is a tranquil space for time in the outdoors, education and social activity!
